If you read my last post “How social media is used in the
storytelling of race?”, then you have an idea of what I am going to talk about
now. I women named Julianne Hing, is a reported for Colorlines (Colorlines,
2013). Colorlines is an award-winning daily news site that investigates on race
within society (Colorlines, 2013). Colorlines publisher is Race Forward. Race
Forward is an national organization that supports racial justice through research,
media, and practice (Colorlines, 2013). The goal of Colorlines is to show race
through the eyes of the community and not the power brokers (Colorlines, 2013).
The title of this video is called #AfterTheHashtag. Hehe, I think that is
funny. The worst part of the video is that at time it becomes harder to hear
what the interviewee is saying at times. Also, the quality is not best by
effective. When I say it is not best I mean it show be on a television news show.
But that is ok because that is what social media is for. This action reminds me
of the quote stated by MuLuhan, “the shock of recognition! In an electric
information environment, minority groups can no longer be contained-ignored.
Too many people know too much about each other. Our new environment compels
commitment and participation. We have become irrevocably involved with, and
responsible for, each other” (1967, 24). The best part of the video is the
content. The video is candid, raw, and real. Give your self some time for the
video because it is 53:41 minutes long but worth your time. The video, also
talks about using social media to create communication on the topics. Social
media is pushing away from a rear-view mirror generation and is now being
present in reality. Hopefully, in time not only will society look forward but
move forward.
